This has now been updated with Bulletin 9.
(Access through "PDF VERSIONS" (above).)

Some of the subjects of previous bulletins have been combined (eg Air Emissions (Bulletin 7) and Air Quality (Bulletin 8) into Air (Bulletin 9)).

The Environmental Indictors for Metropolitan Melbourne project is being reviewed. We are seeking as much input to this review as possible and encourage all readers to provide feedback and to get involved.

Please forward your comments on the Bulletin and suggestions for the project (and any further interest in being involved in the review) to the Secretary, Geoff Baker, on 9459 0634 or email geb936@hotmail.com or by mail to GPO Box 2620, Melbourne, 3001.

This website aims to educate Melburnians on the complexities of our city ecosystems. Condition reports are a record of how a natural system or an aspect of our environment is today and has changed from the past. With our description of pressures we hope to open eyes and provide a measure of how each of us could be contributing to damage to our environment. Response sections are to let you know what’s being done to alleviate pressures on and improve the condition of the environment. We let you know what positive actions you can take and how you can get involved to make a difference.

We present Melbourne’s environment as a series of indicators under a range of themes. Indicators are chosen on their effectiveness to measure important elements in the environment, the availability of data and their relevance at a local level. Data is often limited due to resourcing and access issues, varying perspectives on what is important, change in collection methods over time, and the lack of consistent approaches across different organisations.

Look after your environment and you will be looking after yourself and your neighbours – human, plant and animal.
